Pura Besakih, Bali’s Mother Temple, Indonesia

This place totally rocks! This is the holiest and most sacred temple in all of Bali – it is incredible! It sits on the 10,308 foot (3,148 meters) tall Mount Agung, a volcano, at around 3,000 feet (1,000 meters). Pura Besakih is the largest temple in Bali, and it’s said that it’s home to Bali’s Hindu Gods. The temple is ancient, dating back earlier than 1000 AD. In 1963 Mount Agung erupted, but the lava flows missed the temple; the Balinese people consider this a further sign from the God’s of Pura Besakih’s holiness. It is the most sacred site in Bali.
